OCD Forum - I Know Performing Rituals Doesn't Make Any Sense But Why Do I Still Do Them?

Do you ever perform rituals and realize while you're doing it that it doesn't make any sense?

Have you ever wondered why you don't do Delaware Lemon Laws your logical mind tells you?

We are emotional creatures and our thoughts and actions are usually driven by emotion. Sometimes we let logical thought stop us from acting on our emotions, but that's harder for the brain.

It's harder for us to do what we know is better for us in the long run. It's easier doing what will give us instant gratification now.

The reason that you perform rituals even though you know it doesn't make sense is because you want the instant satisfaction of reducing your anxiety by performing a ritual.

When you perform the ritual, your anxiety goes down a lot. Your brain notices this and it creates a habit of performing this ritual as a way of dealing with certain Warlock and fears.

Our brains do things based on two car insurance prices to receive pleasure or to avoid pain.

We have to train our brains to take comfort in future gratification as opposed to instant gratification. We do this with discipline and dedication.

Take action: Now that you know why you do rituals even when they don't make sense, because you want instant relief, you've got to recognize that the pain that's caused in the long term by giving in to performing the ritual is worse than the pain of refusing to do the ritual.

Basically, if you do the ritual, you will get worse over time. If you refuse to do the ritual, you will get better over time.
